Sugar scrubs are **the perfect** gift for the ladies in your life. Heck, men too – we could all use a little exfoliation, no? But commercial brands are so expensive, and WORSE, filled with toxic chemicals and synthetic ingredients. Not this one. I love the use of Stress Away in this one – especially during the holidays. We could all stress a little less, no? Learn how to make it here.
While I’ve never had an opportunity to go to a fancy spa for a day of luxury, I do make time for myself to incorporate some beauty treatments into my personal time to help me relax, get refreshed, and a little pampered before mom and wife duty calls again. This holiday season, bless a lady in your life with some luxury for herself by gifting her an easy and delightful Spa Gift Basket!
While we having been exploring our own semi-crunchy journey for a little over four years now, we know that many people in our family still think we are a bit on the hippie wagon. Yet and still, I’m always looking for ways to get our family and friends on a more natural journey of their own. One of the ways I love to do this is by introducing them to essential oils. They are so versatile and amazing that it’s no wonder that people typically fall in love with them after just a few uses.
This is a perfect one to do with the kids. All you need are clothespins, a little roll of cork, glue, some bling, your imagination, and you’re in business. Pair them with a sample or two of your favorite essential oil, and you’ve got a solid gift that keeps on giving. Just put a few drops on the cork, attach to your car vent, and breathe. Grab the full “how to” here.
Put your shea butter and coconut oil in a double burner. Put on low heat and let the fats melt. Take off of heat and pour your oils into a glass bowl. Add your olive oil. Let slightly cool and add your Castile soap and essential oil. Put in refrigerator for about an hour or until the solution starts to solidify. Then remove from fridge and whip your solution with an immersion blender until it forms a whipped cream texture. Scoop into your glass pot. Close with lid and store in a dark, cool place. Scoop out silver dollar scoop of cream and spread before shaving.
Pour almost 2 ounces of your Castor Oil into your dropper bottle. Add your essential oils. Put on dropper lid and shake bottle. Apply to your scalp each morning and massage into scalp. Wait 20 minutes and then wash hair. You can also apply before bed. If you want to apply more frequently without an oil feel, you can make the serum using almost 2 ounces of distilled water and 1 teaspoon of witch hazel instead of the castor oil.
plus you can color and scent them any way you want– Color a batch sea blue and use a lavender, lime, and spearmint essential oils for a calming and uplifting aroma that smells like a sea breeze. Or color them yellow with a mix of rosemary and lemon essential oils for an energizing scent that makes you looks forward to your morning shower. Or color them pink and use grapefruit, juniper berry, cypress, and rosemary essential oils to help improve cellulite. If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a great stash of essential oils and are always looking for ways to use them. With the holidays coming up, I decided to make a bunch of DIY essential oil recipes to share with family and friends. Let me just tell you how much money this is going to save me! Woot! Mamas, it’s standard operating procedure that when our littles get sick, we don’t sleep. Right? Especially when that illness is accompanied by a cough that won’t quit. Growing up, Vicks VapoRub was a staple in our medicine cabinet, but that goop is loaded with toxic chemicals. The good news is there’s always a natural alternative to just about every malady your little might encounter. This rub is no exception. It’s made with Cypress and Lavender essential oils create a safe, soothing blend that will help your young guns to relax and promote sleep, and makes a great gift for the mamas in your life. TRUST ME – they will thank you when (not if!) the time comes and they’re dying for some shut-eye! Get the recipe here.
I love the scent of those holiday pinecones in the stores, but unlike this DIY scented pinecone tutorial from Confessions of an Overworked Mom, they are probably not made with real essential oils. Also, I love her idea of sending your kids outside to collect the pinecones—make it a family activity to make them and then deliver to your neighbors to spread cheer.
